NURSING 110 - (15 Weeks) 9 Credits

Class & clinical laboratory 180 hours
Nursing 110 introduces the student to concepts inherent to nursing practice: Nursing process, communication, teaching/learning, ethical/legal responsibilities, growth and development, community, wellness/illness and Maslow’s Hierarchy of Basic Human Needs. Health promotion and prevention of illness are emphasized. Medication administration is introduced. The physiological, psychological and economic impact of illness is discussed. Physical assessment skills are taught in the classroom laboratory. Nursing care related to alterations in safety, protection, sensation, perception and coordination is taught. Guided clinical practice is provided in area hospitals.

NURSING 111 - (15 Weeks) 1 Credit
Theory 15 Hours
Nursing 111 introduces the student to the laws, history, and standards that impact the use and administration of drugs. The responsibility of the professional nurse in medication administration is emphasized. The use of the nursing process in medication administration is taught. The effects of drugs on various age groups are discussed, with a focus on the adult. Mathematical concepts for medication administration are introduced. Drugs related to safety and protection, sensation, perception and coordination are explored.

NURSING 120 - (15 Weeks) 11 Credits
Theory 90 Hours
Clinical laboratory 225 hours
Nursing 120 focuses on the concepts of tissue perfusion, oxygenation, fluid and electrolyte balance and nutrition. The student cares for chronically ill adults within the context of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Basic Human Needs. Physical assessment skills are integrated throughout the course. Guided clinical practice is provided in area hospitals and in community agencies.

NURSING 121 - (15 Weeks) 2 Credits
Theory 30 Hours
Nursing 121 discusses the nurse’s responsibility in providing IV therapy. Drugs related to tissue perfusion, oxygenation, fluid and electrolytes, and nutrition are explored. The focus is on the adult client. Mathematical concepts related to IV therapy and the reconstitution of medications is taught. Patient teaching and medication supervision in the home is emphasized.

NURSING 210 - (15 Weeks) 11 Credits

Clinical laboratory 225 hours
Nursing 210 focuses on the concepts of childbearing, childrearing and mental health as related to individuals and families across the life span. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Basic Human Needs is utilized to provide care for children, adults and families. Concepts related to growth and development and mental health are emphasized in providing family centered care. Health education, maintenance and promotion for clients and families are emphasized. Psychosocial assessment is taught. Guided clinical practice is provided in area hospitals, mental health facilities and community agencies.

NURSING 220 - (15 Weeks) 11 Credits
Theory 90 Hours
Clinical laboratory 225 hours
Nursing 220 focuses on the acutely ill adult. Theoretical content related to acute alterations in tissue perfusion, oxygenation, nutrition, safety and protection, sensation, perception, coordination and mobility is presented. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Basic Human Needs is used to prioritize care. The inclusion of the family is emphasized. Communication skills related to individuals and families in crisis are utilized. Guided clinical practice is provided in area hospitals.

NURSING 230 - (6 Weeks) 4 Credits
Theory 15 Hours
Clinical laboratory 135 hours
Nursing 230 focuses on personal and group management skills required to provide care for groups of patients as a graduate nurse. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking, decision-making and conflict resolution. Content related to leadership style and organizational structures is presented. Current health care issues are discussed. Career management skills are introduced. Guided clinical practice is provided in area hospitals.
