Federal Financial Aid Programs
Mountainside Hospital School of Nursing participates in the Federal Pell Grant Program and the Federal Family Education Loan Programs (FFELP). To be eligible to apply, a student must be accepted to Mountainside Hospital School of Nursing, and have paid the $150.00 Save-A-Place Fee.
All federal financial aid is applied for and received through Mountainside Hospital School of Nursing, not through the educational institution(s) where required college courses are taken.
To apply, students submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the Department of Education. Applications are available in the Financial Aid Office (Room #4) and via the internet www.fafsa.ed.org. Awards to eligible students, are usually made annually, and are credited directly to the student’s account for fall and spring. Students must reapply each year. Financial need is determined by the Department of Education and the School’s Financial Aid Officer.
The School of Nursing’s Financial Assistance Program
The School’s Financial Assistance program offers grants-in-aid, work study positions and merit scholarships to students who are enrolled in nursing. Eligibility may be determined by need or merit.
Financial need is determined by submitting the FAFSA. Merit is determined by the student’s current grade point average/cumulative average (GPA/CUM). Interested students should submit a request for assistance in writing to the chairperson of the Financial Assistance Committee.
Other Programs
Mountainside Hospital School of Nursing has been approved by the State Approving Agency for training of Veterans and their eligibles since 1960 (Contact your local Veteran’s Administration Office). Mountainside Hospital School of Nursing also cooperates with The Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (Apply through your counselor)
STUDENTS MAY RECEIVE AID FROM ONE OR ANY COMBINATION OF THE ABOVE PROGRAMS. HOWEVER, ALL ASSISTANCE AND AID TOGETHER CANNOT EXCEED THE STUDENT’S COST OF ATTENDANCE AS DOCUMENTED BY THE FINANCIAL AID OFFICER.
Refund and Repayment Procedure
A refund is defined as the difference between the amount paid toward school charges (including Financial Aid and/or cash) and the amount the school can retain under the appropriate refund policy. A written request for a refund must be submitted to the Financial Aid Officer, and must comply with the school’s refund distribution policy. Parents or students who believe their individual circumstances warrant exceptions from published refund policy can appeal in writing to:

Financial Aid Recipients
Federal Refund: as defined under Federal Regulation 34CFR 668.22(d). A Return of Title IV Funds will be calculated for all financial aid recipients who are withdrawn before the end of the semester in which they received PELL, Stafford Loans and /or PLUS Loans. This process determines the portion of the PELL and/or loans to be retained by the School and the portion to be refunded by the school to the student. In the case of the Parent PLUS loans, the parent - not the student - is responsible for returning the loan funds as per the terms of the promissory note signed.
Refund Distribution Policy
In the case of a refund, it is Mountainside Hospital School of Nursing’s policy to allocate refunds in this order:
Pell, Stafford Loan, PLUS, and student refunds will be made 30 days after the school’s determination of student withdrawal.
Non Financial Aid Recipients
If a student resigns within the first month of the semester, 50% of tuition only will be refunded. Thereafter, the School of Nursing will retain 100% of the tuition. Student fees are non-refundable.
